Goal: To gain an understanding of floral design tools and how they are used in the industry.

Description: Utilizing and knowing the correct use of floral design tools provides an efficient approach to creating quality floral arrangements. This presentation describes the primary purposes of floral design tools and how they are effectively used in the floral industry. This presentation addresses the various knives, scissors, adhesives and tapes, as well as other floral design accessories commonly used by florists around the country. This presentation provides scenarios in which a specific tool would be used. Students will learn how to identify the various tools, as well as be able to apply and assess situations to determine which tool would be most effective in achieving the intended design goal.

Objectives: 1. To identify floral design tools. 2. To describe the use of adhesives in floral design. 3. To discuss different products necessary to floral design.

Techniques of Floral Design.

Goal: To gain an understanding of the different techniques and types of flowers used in basic floral designs. To understand the stem treatments, tools and preservatives used in post harvest care of cut flowers. Students will understand the overall importance of caring for cut flowers after harvest.

Description: Demonstrating the proper techniques used in floral design is very important when creating an arrangement. This presentation takes a closer look at the proper floral design techniques. How are flowers processed and cared for before they get to the customer? Go behind the scenes at a wholesale floral company and a retail flower shop for an in-depth look at the care of flowers after they have been harvested. This presentation examines the process from the time the flowers are processed at the wholesale florist until they are placed in the cooler at the retail florist. The use of preservatives and disease prevention are also discussed.

To identify the various tools and equipment used in the post harvest care of cut flowers.

Principles and Elements

Goal: To gain an understanding of the elements and principles as well as the color schemes associated with basic floral designs.

Description: Comprehending the elements and principles of floral design is vital in creating a quality arrangement. This presentation takes a closer look at the elements and principles of floral design. This presentation analyzes the following elements and principles of design: line, form, space, texture, pattern, color, size, fragrance, balance, proportion, scale, harmony, unity, dominance, focal point, emphasis, accent, rhythm, depth, repetition, transition, contrast, variation, opposition and tension.

Objectives:
